A girl dressed in a uniform walked in carrying a tray. She gently knocked on the door before fully entering. If one were to judge her by her uniform they would think she was a nurse, but she was just simply cafeteria staff. The staff wore uniforms similar to the nurses. The difference in the uniforms were the color and the name tags they had to wear. Paige smiled at the man leaning against the wall as she entered the room, then looked to the girl in the bed. She had heard that the girl was brought in unconscious and was told that if she wasn't awake to have to food returned back to the cafeteria and to mark it on the chart
"You're awake, I'll be sure to let the doctor know"
she walked over to the corner of the room where a table sat and placed the tray on the table
"I have your food here of your hungry"
she started prepping the food. Upon lifting the lid to make sure the proper food was there, she realized the food was cold and mumbled to herself
"Oh this won't do"
she sighed. then she moved so that all they could see was her back. Pretending to prep her tray properly
"Sorry the cafeteria has a tendency to forget things and it seems they have forgotten your dinner roll"
This was actually a cover up for the food being cold which was something that annoyed her. She hated serving patients cold food.  While she told them about the 'missing dinner roll' she had slid her hand under the plate in order to heat the food up. A few seconds later when she was satisfied with the now heated food she stepped back pulling the table with her and rolled it over to the bed.
"I'm so sorry about that. If you give me a moment I can run down to the cafeteria and get you a fresh dinner roll to replace the missing one"
she looked back at the man leaning against the wall and the one sitting down smiling at both of them
"I could get you two something to eat as well"
Realizing she had stayed to long and had more trays to deliver r
"If you need anything I'll be just down the hall, I will be back momentarily with your dinner roll"
she started walking towards the door passing the man

Lilly nodded her head to Kay Linn. "I'll make something to eat." She said to her, then heard a knock at the front door. She looked at Kay Linn and smiled slightly. "I'll be right back."
Lilly walked into the foyer, seeing a man with his daughter. "Hello." She greeted them. "May I help you?" She asked kindly.

Vyse grinned at the nurse who walked in the room. He tried his best not to stare, but in the end whistled before saying " 'Helloooo Nurse!"

Ability/Affinity: Tactile telepathy and mind control for people, though this is his secondary ability and the one Control has allowed him to keep. His primary ability was the power to manipulate the minds of animals by thinking about it, but for the moment that power has been locked by Control.

"Here's the file."
Maul's partner tossed him the sheets of paper. He looked through them - a girl, a nurse, in a hospital. A Runner.
"She's cute. How dangerous is she?"
"Not a lawbreaker," his partner replied, toying with a rose. "She's a nice lass, helping people, all that jazz. We just need to ensure that she is on the right side of the law - that is to say, our side."
Maul rolled his eyes.
"Hey, I saw that, Maul. Don't act all high and mighty."
Maul smirked. "Stop me. Says here she's a possible rare one."
"Yep," James Simmons, his partner, replied. "She's been seen using fire and ice, and she doesn't have a twin. That's why you're here, to pacify her."
Maul laughed. "Pacify. Nice word."

They were parked outside of the hospital. "You ready, Maul. Let's make this a professional job."
Maul got out the car. "Let's go, Simmons. Just don't grow roses everywhere again. That was so corny I think I was going to be sick last time..."

Clyde noted the girls politeness and assumed that she must be the caretaker of the estate.
That you could, I noticed that there is a vacancy sign out front and I was wondering if my daughter and I could take one of your rooms for a night or two.
As Clyde said this, Maple looked around the Bed and Breakfast, however her reaction was a dull one from what she may have been expecting. It appeared to be just like a regular old house, as it was suppose to be, but who knows what the young girl was expecting. There was something to note from what the two of them could see though. Besides them, there were other guests at today. One was a female who looked like she's just been in a sprint, and the other one was just coming down the stairs, a male. Clyde thought that the worn-out female would be an explanation for the blood blemishes outside, if she was hurt in the first place, he couldn't make out of she was hurt from his position. Clyde, returning from his thoughts, remembered that he had forgotten to greet himself.
Oh, excuse me. My names Clyde, and this is my daughter, Maple.
Maple then walked up close to the presumed owner and look directly up into her eyes.
Miss, will there be doughnuts for breakfast?

Virgil shot a glare towards Vyse before extending his arm to the other side of the door to block the nurse into the room.

Turning his head towards her, Virgil whispered under his breath.

"I did see that, you know."

Virgil softly coaxed her away from the door before closing it again.

"I think you should stay for a moment and chat."

Virgil turned his gaze back to Vyse, his expression clearly not amused.

"And you - Vyse? - If you wish to remain on my good side, I would appreciate it if you showed people some respect."

Virgil had posed it as a question, but it most assuredly was not one.


Virgil stepped over to the window and cracked the blinds, looking out into the hospital parking lot.

"Hmm.."

Virgil let the blinds go with an audible twang before retrieving the massive sword from under the hospital bed.


"Black sedan, tinted windows, no plates."

He looked directly towards Vulture and smiled.

"I take it that's your friends. So who are they here for? Something tells me they won't be expecting our little..gathering."

Virgil let out a sigh before continuing.

"Normally.. I would just shift us all into the void and get us out of here, but since the young miss isn't exactly in the condition to be travelling again, I suppose it's time to fight."


Virgil stretched his muscles in preparation.

"I would suggest any who aren't entirely comfortable in battle stay here, and above all else, hide."

Virgil passed the young cafeteria girl and spoke quickly before exiting the room.

"I'm sorry that I don't have time to explain. Just know you are in danger, and I am here to protect you and people like you. I will see you shortly."

Virgil shifted into the void and stepped out directly in front of the agency issue vehicle.

"Hello, gentleman."

A wicked grin spread across his face as his eyes began to glow a bright red, his zweihander ringing out as he drug the tip across the ground.

"James... call me unprepared, but this was not in the mission brief."
"I'll take him. You get the girl. Remember, this is strictly non-confrontational. Don't use that gun unless it's that or die."
"I know, I know."
Both men exited the car.
James was tall, muscular, the torso of an athlete matched with the hair and wrinkles of a scholar, which was appropriate considering he was in his late forties. Maul was thinner, barely out of his teens but already sporting a natural crop of grey hair.
"Sir," James began, "I'm going to assume you can hazard a guess as to who me and my associate are, but I assure you we mean you, and whoever you are protecting in there no harm. We are merely asking the female Runner in there to co-operate with us, for her own safety."
He fingered the rose at his lapel.
"Should the girl decide not to co-operate, we will leave. By all means, you can even escort us to her and enforce that. Me and my colleague are from the Runner Rehabilitation Program. I am one of it's mentors, and Maul here is one of it's most aspiring graduates."
Maul raised a hand, gave a lazy salute, then dropped it back into his pocket.
"All I ask is that you please employ reason and tact in your next actions," James concluded, and waited for the crazy swordsman's response.

When Paige was blocked from exiting the room and the door being shut she quickly tried to protest
"But.. I"
before she could say anything else he had walked over to the window and spoke of a vehicle then vanished. She stood there with her mouth gaping open
"What..just happened?"
she blinked, then rubbed her eyes wondering if she was seeing things or dreaming. Then she heard the nurses speaking outside of the room
"I..uh...I better get back to work"
she started walking out of the room in a daze, her mind was completely boggled a this point. She tried to focus on her work delivering the food to the rest of the patients

Virgil listened intently.

"You know, if you listen carefully, one can always hear a lie. It's something about the way each word rolls of the tongue. It's unnatural, really."

In an obvious display of force, Virgil stepped into the void, and back out again. When he reappeared, he was sitting in the hood of the car, his blade shoved through the hood.


"I have seen this so called rehabilitation program take its toll on a young girl. She cowered in fear at the sight of anything reminiscent of a surgical tool."

Virgil rapped his fingers against the hood of the car rhythmically.

With a calm smile, Virgil planted his hand against the hood of the car as it began to age and decay, first turning to rust, before eventually being carried away on the wind as dust.

He retrieved his sword and stepped from the now engine-less car, up towards the young man.

"Now, let me ask you, 'sir'. How do I know you're telling the truth? Why would I possibly accept your offer, when every fiber of my being is screaming and telling me no?"

Virgil took a few steps closer.


"Would you be willing to wager both of your lives on that? Are both of your lives worth this facade? Or would you rather just skip the extra step of me finding out your lie, and try and kill me now before I interrupt your little plans?"

Lilly smiled to Maple. "There will be some." She replied. "Homemade." She added, as she looked to Clyde. "Let's get you signed in, and a room." She smiled warmly. "Lunch will be served fairly soon. Have you eaten?" She asked.

"I do not think you have seen our rehabilitation program. I think the girl you talked to was one of those who insist on living their lives as a threat to other people. Sadly, we must break a few eggs to make an omelette, as the saying goes."
James looked regretfully at the remains of their vehicle. "I liked that car."
He looked back at Vergil and spoke with his head held high.
"Well, sir, tell me this. Seeing as you have destroyed our only means of escape - proven yourself to be far out of our league - and lastly done your utmost to uphold the unfortunate stereotypical image that all Runners are dangerous and must be destroyed - why on earth would we still be here negotiating? It is obvious you could kill both me and my comrade in an instant, so as a result the only weapon we have at our disposal to fight you - except for my partner's emergency tranquilizer gun which I sense would be about as much use as a toothpick against a blue whale - is the truth. And I will say it again. If she refuses our offer, we will peacefully leave. You can bring her here or take us to her, we don't care. We just want to talk. Everyone deserves a chance at finding a place to belong, to hone their abilities. Surely you wouldn't deny that right to someone, would you?"
He adjusted his pose. Maul did the same.
"And to answer your question, both me and my partner place our lives on this. Happy now?"

Vyse walked over to the Paige and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"Yeah, I know what your thinking. As you might guess, the three of us aren't what you would call normal." Vyse said as he tried to move the nurse closer to the bed with Vulture in it "My guess is some craziness might be going down soon. Whatever happens, stay close to me."

Paige looked to the door then back at him
"But I have work to do, I can't lose my job, and there are people waiting to eat, I must finish my work"
she stood up and pushed him away
"I dont know who you people are and from what i just saw I dont want to be here"
she headed towards the door again

Maple was now contempt, not with the Bed and Breakfast, but with life itself. She didn't even know it was possible for doughnuts to be homemade, and now this girl is promising fresh ones tomorrow. Clyde was able to catch on to her bliss, and with that, he made the decision to not try anything to unravel any dark Bed and Breakfast secrets for at the least until after breakfast tomorrow. For now, the suspicious looking girl and the other man could both be runners for all he cared, but as long as they were here, Clyde figured that they couldn't do much harm. Besides, Clyde already had a feeling that he wouldn't want to turn this place over to authorities in the first place, even if there are some sketchy signals going on. Perhaps he could work something out...
Thank you for your hospitality, and no, we haven't eaten lunch yet, we'd be grateful for lunch.
Maple may have eaten 3 pink frosted doughnuts before, but it's well known that kids have a separate, endless stomach for sweets, and Clyde knew this best of all. He was lucky to have a daughter that was always willing to eat anything. Clyde walked over to the the sign in station with Maple following. Clyde was able to see the male who appeared to be around the age of 18-21. He was also able to get a closer look at the female. She appeared fairly young and she was obviously tired. She also appeared a bit worried...or maybe it was just pain. Anyhow, Clyde raised his arm, palm facing the direction of the girl.
Good evening.

"Make yourself at home." Lilly said to Clyde, as she handed him a room key. "It's at the end of the hall, and has it's own bathroom." She explained, then looked down to Maple. "Now...what kinds of things do you like to eat for lunch, Maple?" She asked. "I was thinking of making sandwiches on the bread I made earlier." She added.

Vyse walked over and picked up the nurse around the waist. He carried her over the the window and said "Do you know whats about to happen? The guy that just left is going to fight some bad guys. If you leave, you'll put yourself in danger." before grasping her shoulders and said "Do you want something bad to happen?"

Virgil looked over the two men studiously for a moment before making his decision.
"Make your appeal to me, and I will take it to her. Unless she agrees, you will never see her face."

Virgil lowered his weapon as a show of good faith, even though he had no trust in the men.
"Also - when you file your report on me, just go ahead and call me the Guardian Angel. Real names are just so boring, wouldn't you say?"

Paige struggled when he picked her up by the waist
"Put me down"
she looked out the window when carried her over to it
"How am I putting myself in danger, Im just working"
she sighed
"If I dont get back to work they will come looking for me and I will most likely get fired. I wont say anything about what i saw just let me go"

Roy watched the newcomers silently, almost glaring at them. Not for any reason in particular, just because he was always suspicious of "normals" as he called them. He knew too much, he had seen too much already...he knew how regular people could turn on Runners in the blink of an eye. When the two walked away to get their room key, Roy walked over to where Kay Linn was and sat down next to her. He whispered to her so as not to draw attention.
"So, how are you holding up? Feeling any better yet?"

When River walked out of the room, a smirk crossed Yeager's face. One of his bodyguards approached him with a slightly confused look on his face.
"Sir...if you don't mind my asking, why did you buy something that dangerous?"
Yeager waved dismissively.
"I have plans for them. That is all you need to know."
He then turned his head towards the guard with a serious look on his face.
"Tell the men to find haz-mat suits and get those weapons in here as quickly as possible. I want them inside this building the very second our good captain gives the word. Then, lock down the entire area immediately."
The man nodded and left right away to carry out Yeager's orders.

James toyed with the rose at his lapel, a nervous habit.
"We intend to offer her a place where she can understand her powers, learn to control them, in a safe, controlled, non-hostile environment. She can continue being a nurse if she so chooses, but with her abilities in check so that if she wants to, she can live a perfectly normal life, not posing a threat to any unsuspecting civilians. She will be given complete freedom to opt in and out of the program. However, I must say this so that I cover all the bases - if she opts out, and then whether accidentally or on purpose uses her powers to commit a felony - then she will be co-opted into the program, to protect both the world and herself. Maul here was a Runner. He destroyed so many lives during his Run that by the time we found him he was borderline suicidal."
Maul looked away.
"We took away that ability, and trained him, honed him. Now, he's got a stable job helping others to not make the mistake he made. All we ask is that you give this girl the same chance. Then we will depart."
Then he raised an eyebrow.
"And one more thing. When we write our report on you, chances are we're going to title it "Crazy-Sword-Guy-Who-Destroyed-My-Car." "Guardian Angel"? We'd get laughed out of the office room with a name that cheesy."

While James had been talking, Maul's eyes had been focused on the window. He'd seen Vyse and Paige going back and forth across it, seemingly in the midst of some sort of argument. His eyes narrowed just a tad, but he kept quiet for now.

With a bit of excitement in her voice, Maple looked up at the owner and said,
I like sandwiches!
The excitement came from the fact that these sandwiches were going to be made on home made bread. It was a rarity that Maple was able to eat home made foods, so she was happy for the rare occurrence.
Excuse me, Miss, what's your name?

Lilly's smile grew. "My name is Lilly Weston." She replied. "Would you like to help make some sandwiches?" She asked her.

Lilly's offer intrigued Maple, perhaps if she could learn how to make sandwiches well here, she would be able to make them well at home for Papa as and her as well. However, while she knew in a normal situation that Papa would let her go, she was unsure of what he would think while they were on a mission, Papa did like to be defensive of her during them. Maple turned to her father.
Papa, may I?
Normally Clyde would say that she couldn't, however this place didn't seem threatening at all, and Lilly appeared genuinely kind. Though they had just met her, she was already leaving a rather positive impression on Maple.
Sure you can, but only on one condition.
What is it?
If Lilly happens to have any tomatoes, make sure to put a slice on mine. I'm going to put our luggage in our room, I'll be waiting in the lobby once your done.
Okay, thanks Papa!
With that, Clyde left to find their room. On his way, he thought about the female and the male who were also staying at the Bed and Breakfast. The male seemed to whisper something in the females ear, he recalled. Perhaps the two of them are a couple? He figured he'd ask during lunch, or if he had some spare time whilst waiting in the lobby. He found the room, unlocked it, and entered. The room appeared to be well kept and comfortable, Clyde could easily spend the night in here. After a bit more room examination and appreciation, he set the bag down atop of the bed and then walked out of the room, locking the door behind him as he left.

Virgil studied the men again for a moment.

"I'll take her your offer, and I'll return to you. I request that you respect me, and stay where you are for now."

Virgil began walking away, before turning his head back over his shoulder.

"And as far as the name - Crazy guy, I like that. It fits."

Virgil stepped back into the void and out directly in front of Paige.

"Hello miss. The men down there have an offer to make to you. I will explain it to you unbiased."

Virgil took the time to explain their offer, and waited for the girls response.

"Whichever you choose, I won't stop you. If you choose not to, know that I will protect you from whatever they may try to do."

Lilly smile grew. "I grow some vegetables in the back yard." She said to Maple, as she led her towards the large kitchen. "I pick them the ripe ones everyday and use them as often as I can."
