Stake smiled up at them
"I feel a lot... harder..."
He tried to move slightly, but nothing happened.
"Not sure how I'm going to get out though... I think Arthur went food shopping... I'll just wait til he gets back so he can tell me how to get out..."

"Harder from spending time with Arthur, eh?",
Flint chuckled slightly

Stake blinked.
"What does that mean? I feel like I missed something..."
He tilted his head.
"Are you on about like when you get harder from spending time with Fay? Because I'm not into him like that..." he said innocently...

he ducked down close to Stake, speaking in a quiet voice
"If you ask nicely I might set you up with someone from Dynasty",
he winked and got back up

Stake remembered his conversation with Arthur and Fay the night before and sagged, tears starting to form in his eyes.
"No... thank you..."

"Hey erm, what's wrong?"

Stake sniffled, and tears started falling down his face, but because he was trapped in rock he couldn't even wipe them away and just lay there helplessly crying.
"N...n...no-nothing..."

At that point, Arthur re-entered, carrying two bottles of a peculiar clear liquid. Upon seeing Stake crying, he instantly put them down and moved to him, wiping away his tears with his shirt sleeve.
"Stop crying... come on..."

He shot Flint a look of anger, the first time they'd seen him lose his permanent smile even under the threat of fire.
"Might I just say, I had you put down as a more sensible and sensitive personality as opposed to the cloddish and hurtful one you are currently displaying!"

It was the first time Arthur could actually remember losing his cool.
Very unscientific. A brotherly instinct, breaking the shield of intellect.
He shook his head, as though apologizing, and continued wiping away Stake's tears which kept falling...

Flint sat down,
"I err... didn't um... mean...",
he breathed out,
"Sorry..."

fay just shook her head
"it will be fine stake we will find someone out there for you, there are all sorts of people, there is bound to be someone out there for you"

Flint looked back at Arthur,
"Do you have any food around?"

Stake had stopped crying, but now Arthur was just as upset, the mirror of his own emotions staring him in the face.
"With all due respect, boy, shut up."
He turned on them, and he looked close to tears himself.
"And Fay, there IS NO-ONE LIKE US. There's only two homunculi of our complexity, intellect and durability. And you're looking at them."

His thin chest was heaving with emotion, and his eyes were narrowed.
"Now I know you're trying to be nice, and you're trying to make him hope, but that's not going to make the truth any nicer. And the truth, is this."

"The cold harsh reality is that me and Stake are going to watch you two wither and die. We will watch EVERYTHING wither and die, and then I guess I'll have no choice but to set myself on fire and die, and then what will Stake do? Try and destroy himself, can't be done, can't drown, can't... can't die.."

He shook his head, then looked down at Stake. "I pity you."
Then he walked out the doors, starting to cry himself. "The liquid tastes like whatever you want it to... and right now, boy, I hope you choke on it..."

Flint didn't know what to do and just sighed,
"I think I will take a walk...",
he opened the door and headed towards the beach

fay watched as the two left
"well there is always hope"
she sighed shaking her head she looked over at stake
"are you okay?"

He nodded, still quiet.
"Yeah..."

It was getting dark already so having night clothes on made little difference to him while walking around,
He walked till his feet touched the sands of the beach, he looked out to the sea,
"Damn it... Why am I such an idiot. Worse yet now I bet even Fay is mad at me",
he sat on the wooden groyne and continued to look at the sea, thinking about the previous day as the sky darkened and the wind got colder

fay looked at the door then back at stake
"do you need anything ?"

He shook his head, sinking back into the liquid rock.
"Go find Flint... tell him it's alright... please... I don't want him to be upset..."

fay nodded
"ok ill go find flint then, just rest up"
she headed out the door to find flint
"i wonder where he could be"

Flint continued to look at the ocean, the cold causing him to shiver slightly. He too little notice of it as he continued staring out at the dark horizon

fay decided to check the beach since they were close to it she started walking along the shore looking around for him
she saw someone sitting in a distance
"flint is that you?"

Flint didn't turn to look at her. He was sure she would be mad at him for not thinking about Arthur and Stake's feelings, instead he spoke quietly,
"Yeah...."

fay approached him and leaned up against the groyne
"what are you doing out here?"
she looked out at the ocean
"its peaceful out here isnt it?"

"I suppose...",
he turned to look at her only very slightly.
"It's almost as beautiful as you",
he looked at her fully now then stood up and embraced her,
"You shouldn't come out here wearing that you will get cold..."

she looked up at him
"i guess i wasnt really thinking when i came out here, maybe we both should head back, you feel pretty cold yourself"
she looks up at him
"lets head back and get warmed up"

"Right...",
He released the embrace and took her by the hand, walking back to Arthur's home
